The Mopar booth at the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show in Las Vegas, Nevada, last week was impressive to say the least. Mopar had plenty of vehicles on hand to wow the crowd, but we were excited to attend the Mopar unveiling of the long-awaited and secret Mopar ’14 and the newest version of the Challenger R/T. The big news? The famous “Shaker” hood will return to the Challenger as a functional feature, the Mopar ’14 will be offered as a limited production Mopar, and all-new three-stage Dodge Scat Packages will unleash more power, arriving on vehicles in the Spring of 2014.
“The legendary Shaker performance hood is back, with its engine-mounted, fully floating scoop and exposed high-flow element that produces cold-air induction – making the new 2014 Dodge Challenger R/T Shaker the real deal,” said Tim Kuniskis, President and CEO of Dodge Brand. “With Challenger having its best sales-year ever, the time is right to provide our most loyal fans with the return of the Shaker, and even more power with new ‘Scat Package,’ performance stage kits.”
“With Mopar engineers working alongside Dodge designers and engineers, we created these factory-proven products to amplify performance and style in a way that no one else can,” said Pietro Gorlier, President and CEO of Mopar, Chrysler Group LLC’s service, parts and customer-care brand. “The ‘Shaker’, ‘Scat Packages’ and our new Mopar ’14 celebrate customized performance.”
The 2014 Dodge Challenger R/T Shaker throws us back to the heyday of muscle car performance. The Shaker adds a hint of heritage to the Challenger while pulling cold air through its satin black center-mounted hood scoop and directly into the heart of the 5.7L Hemi V-8 powerplant. So what gives it the name “Shaker?” Well, like its predecessor, the engine-mounted hood scoop shakes with the powertrain’s movement. A “Shaker” badge under-hood is also a flashback to the 1970s.
The Dodge Challenger R/T Shaker will come complete with driver-selectable sport-mode powertrain calibration, performance-tuned suspension, four-wheel disc brakes, steering calibration, and the Super Track Pak, which features high-performance steering gear, brake linings, and monotube shock absorbers. Unless the buyer opts for all-season performance tires, Goodyear Eagle F1 Super Car three season tires in size P245/45R20 keep the Challenger planted to the pavement. In case you’d like to disconnect from the pavement, the three-mode electronic stability control has a “full off” mode to let the rear end hang out and do donuts until your heart’s content.
A limited number of the new 2014 Challenger R/T Shakers will be available at Dodge dealerships in early 2014 with pricing starting at $36,995 MSRP. It will be available in six colors: Billet Silver Metallic, Bright White, Pitch Black, Plum Crazy, TorRed and vibrant Header Orange.
There has been much talk about what Mopar calls the Mopar ’14 for quite a while now. If you’ve been keeping a finger on the pulse of Mopar (aka visiting MoparMuscle.com) in the weeks leading up to SEMA, we clued you in to a few hints regarding the mysterious new Dodge. It has finally been unveiled and here’s what we know.
According to Mopar, only 100 of the new limited-edition vehicles will be built making it the rarest limited-production Challenger model announced to date. Basically, the Mopar ’14 is taking the Challenger R/T Shaker up a notch by highlighting all of the seriously “Mopar” features of the car and featuring any combination of the three new “Scat Packages” (click here for more information on those!).
“The Mopar ’14 is yet another factory-engineered example of how Mopar can make even limited-edition muscle cars like the Challenger even more special,” said Gorlier. “With three new ‘Scat Packages’ and more than 100 proven, quality-tested Mopar performance parts and accessories available for the Dodge Challenger, Mopar makes it simple through its one-stop customization shop.”
The Mopar ’14 Challenger will be available in only Bright White or Gloss Black with a Mopar Blue stripe like its limited-edition brethren: the Mopar ’10 Challenger, Mopar ’11 Charger, Mopar ’12 300, and Mopar ’13 Dart. It features an additional stipe option as well. The Mopar ’14 will come complete with the Satin Black Shaker hood scoop and of course the 5.7L Hemi V-8, and includes such unique elements as 20x8-inch gloss black aluminum wheels with Mopar center caps, a Black Vapor grille surround, black fuel-filler door and gloss black deck-lid spoiler with gloss black “Mopar Design” badge and “Mopar” quarter-glass decals – all of which offset the Bright White finish beautifully.
A Dark Slate interior with plenty of Mopar accents features performance front seats with aggressive bolsters in premium black Nappa Leather with Mopar Blue accent thread with Mopar Omega M logos embroidered on the seat backs. Mopar Blue thread also binds the seams of the armrest, pistol-grip shifter boot, and three-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel. Owners of each Mopar ‘14 Challenger will receive with purchase a custom-crafted personalized owner’s kit with such documentation as a Mopar ’14 brochure, unique Mopar ’14 memorabilia, and customized items crafted with the serial number of each vehicle.
Additional options for Mopar ’14 owners which would be installed at the Mopar Custom Shop before delivery include: a Mopar short-throw shifter, cat-back exhaust, performance suspension, lowering springs, Electronic Vehicle Tracking System (EVTS), Mopar performance badges, hood pin kit, car cover, door-sill guards, sequential taillight kit, premium floor mats or slush mats, chrome exhaust tip, fuel-filler door, wheel locks, and interior trim bezel kit.
All Mopar ‘14s will be built in the Dodge factory in Brampton, Ontario, and will arrive in dealerships in the second quarter of 2014. Pricing has yet to be announced, but you can order yours beginning in March 2014.
