The 40th anniversary of the Chrysler 426 Hemi-powered Darts and Barracudas is this year, and a very special event will be held on August 22-24, 2008 to honor them and other vintage 426 Hemi-powered Chrysler race and street vehicles. The All Hemi Reunion is scheduled to take place at the historic Quaker City Raceway in Salem, Ohio, and will feature dozens of real Hemi cars, the personalities who drove them, and a special All-American Cruise-In open to all cars built in the United States between 1962 and 1971 regardless of make. Attendance in the Hemi vehicle display will by invitation only and this will be a non-judged event.
In addition to the original Hurst-constructed 1968 Hemi Darts and Barracudas, display classes will include all street Hemi cars from 1966 to 1971, the 1964 to 1967 factory race cars, any Hemi car built to run in legal Stock, Super Stock, FX, Funny Car or Pro Stock (even if it was not originally Hemi-powered), and other 426" Hemi-powered competition machinery. Special areas have also been designated for 'survivor Hemi car' and 'original owner Hemi car', and a special display section will be set aside for invited tribute / non-authentic Hemi replications.
The late August date selected for the All Hemi Reunion puts this event only one week before the NHRA Mac Tools U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis, where the present day SS/AH class is highlighted each year. As a result, the SS/AH tribute cars presently competing in that division are also welcome. At present, on-track racing will be limited to standard test and tune sessions during the course of the weekend.
The event will be open to the public for an admission charge, and no pre-registration is required to take part in the All-American Cruise In, which will occur on Saturday, August 23. Come celebrate the heritage of roaring Hemi horsepower with us at Quaker City Raceway!
A SPECIAL NOTE TO HEMI CAR OWNERS: Vehicle display space for this once-in-a-lifetime event is limited and owners are asked to submit the paperwork for invitational acceptance as soon as possible. Already filling up, this event WILL be the largest-ever gathering of race Hemi vehicles since the 1960s, and is likely to also be one of the most important gatherings of Hemi street cars in history. Don't wait ten more years until the 50th Anniversary! If you think you have a car that would fit one of the classes, contact Match Race Madness at (714) 547-6004 or go to the website www.allhemireunion.com for the latest information and a registration form.
