'98 Dakota R/T
What's a guy to do if he wants to own a muscle car, but needs a truck? If you're Tom Filbert of Marysville, Ohio, a Dodge Dakota R/T is just what you need--Although Tom does also have a Cuda. Tom made no bones about how his truck would perform, and he even underestimated what his actual number turned out to be. To say his Dakota didn't disappoint him is an understatement.
His Intense Blue R/T features eye candy mods like a custom roll pan and grill, as well as CCW wheels, and Viper brakes. For handling, a Hotchkis suspension makes the corners seem not so scary.
The Dakota came factory with a 5.9 Magnum (360), engine, but Tom felt that he needed to add a few things. When he dove into the engine, he added a Hughes hydraulic roller camshaft with .544-inch lift, and 222/228-degrees of duration. An M1 intake with a stock, ported throttle body send air to the stock heads. Creating the combustible boom when the air and fuel are mixed is the stock ignition with a set of Firecore 50 wires. Finally, Edelbrock "shorty" headers and Powerstick mufflers send a cool sound out the back of the truck.
Dressing up the interior is a short throw shifter for the manual transmission with the addition of a B-Body Pistol Grip shifter.
With a trip down the track, Tom's Dakota managed a respectable 14.3 et at 99.6 mph. Not bad considering his street tires only allowed a 2.3-second 60-foot time.
Although Tom might not have won our AMSOIL/Mopar Muscle Numbers Don't Lie Shootout, He made a great showing, check out the video of Tom's Dakota on the dyno below.
