Who: Dan Brudzinzki
Where: Livonia, Michigan
What: ’69 Plymouth Road Runner
Dan’s been into Mopars for ages, especially after a couple of guys on his street came home from Vietnam and bought muscle Mopars with their mustering-out pay.
A few years later, he bought his first one—a ’69 Road Runner. Ten Mopars later in 2004, he bought his first basket case—another ’69 Road Runner, originally a 383/column-shifted ride that was missing its engine, interior, and glass.
Dan and his buds Ronnie, Jake, and Kenny built it the way he’d have ordered it, with a Hemi and a four-speed, an interior from Legendary, glass from AMD, tti headers with a 3-inch exhaust, and a 3.55-geared Sure Grip. Also going on, PST front disc brakes, Cragar S/S wheels shod with BFG’s in front and Mickey Thompson’s in back, and two-stage B5 Blue over a white bucket seat interior.
Dan also sends a big shout-out to his wife Renee for her support during the build.
Who: Gene Dickerson
Where: Jupiter, Florida
What: ’72 Dodge Challenger Rallye
Gene bought his Challenger Rallye in 2009 from its original owner and drove it around with the stock 340 in it—until he found it wasn’t holding its own against other muscle cars on the street.
That’s where Gene’s good friend Walter Wood stepped in. He’d built a ’67 440 into a 528-inch stroker, which soon replaced the 340. Also going in was a beefed-up 727 TorqueFlite, a set of subframe connectors, a rack-and-pinion steering setup, Super Stock rear springs, air conditioning, and a paint job that restored its original red color.
The first time Gene showed it, at Mopars at Big Daddy’s—which was also his first trip to that fall show at the Don Garlits Museum of Drag Racing in Ocala, where he scored a Third Place Participants’ Choice trophy.
Gene adds that whenever the sun’s shining in Jupiter, he’ll be driving his Challenger, beautifying the streets of Jupiter in the process!
