Another of Brian Frederick's candid shots shows ice cubes melting atop Flynn's radiator tank between rounds. The belt-driven Hilborn fuel pump is visible. The conventional cam-driven Hilborn pumps (as used on open body race cars) conflict with radiators on door slammer applications. The 15-5/8-inch long ram tubes enhanced low end torque and were used with TorqueFlite automatics. The few manual transmission altered wheelbase cars of Sox & Martin, Lee Smith, Butch Leal and Dave Strickler used shorter 7-inch long tubes – which fit under the Hemi hood scoop without cutting.
