To start off 2008, here's a Young Gun-Ashley Kressley of Mertztown, Pennsylvania, and her Mopar story.
"I am 18 years old, and I had been looking for a Mopar to call my own for years. last September, I finally found a '66 Dodge Coronet. when I first saw it, I was a little worried because there were dents and rust spots everywhere, and no seats. But I said to myself, 'You just can't get something and think that you won't have to do anything to it,' so I bought it for $1,000.
"I got it home, and that same day my family and I started ripping it apart. I found there were rust spots everywhere on the floorboard and in the trunk; the upper control arms had to be replaced; someone had replaced the quarter panels with vinyl house siding, but there was a solid running 318 engine.
"I hear comments from people like, 'What does she want with that piece of junk?' or, 'She will never get that car done; she has no idea what she is doing.'
"Well, I've got news for them. my dad and I have already taken the engine out and cleaned it up, and painted the engine compartment. We welded new patches on the fenders and welded the new floorpans in. I have taken almost all the chrome off and pretty much gutted the entire car.
"It is still a work in progress, but it will be my winter project. When it is done, it will be intense blue with either white racing stripes or a hoodscoop."
