8.26 at 155mph is really moving...
8.26 at 155mph is really moving out. With an 18-year-old piloting this powerful machine, that's draw-dropping-fast!
Not very many of us were going much faster than 13-second passes when we were in high school. Brian "Hotrod" Hurst destroyed that benchmark by running 10.37 at 126 mph in a '71 Challenger. He went on to win the championship at his local dragstrip in the High School Class. As if that weren't enough, his success in that class rewarded him with a spot in the hot seat of a Third-Gen 426 Hemi-powered rail.
The new-generation Hemi produces over 600 hp and is controlled by a FAST computer system with electronic fuel injection. Built by Indy Cylinder Head, the high-tech Hemi has propelled the '07 Fox Chassis dragster to 8.26 at 155 mph. That was under the guidance of Brian, who is only 18 years old. Most of us are still hunting for an 8-second slip, and it's an accomplishment for any age.
Brian grew up around cars and lives in Fairborn, Ohio. He has always aspired to be like his father, Jeff, and grandfather, Fred, who were both involved with cars and racing. Today, they make up his loyal pit crew who help the Wheatcraft Racing, Indy Cylinder Head, Extreme Sportsware dragster make each pass down the 1320.
Brian would like to thank Chris and Wheatcraft, Russ Flagle at Indy Cylinder Head, Eddie and Pam at Extreme Sports-wear, Greg and Donna Sanford, Evan and Michelle Kirk, and his family. Without the support from all of these listed parties, Brian's successes wouldn't be nearly as distinguished. Keep up the great work, Brian. See you out at the track!
