Taking a worn block at +.030 inch to +.040 inch means that the boring operation can't be done because there's not enough material for a bore-and-finish hone. This is where experience pays off. Jerry plays that Sunnen honing machine like a fiddle, pulling the taper out of the bore and having it come square just as the top of the cylinder reaches the .040 overbore size we're shooting for.
