1975 Dodge Dart Sport - Making "Cheap" Look Cool

The tires on the car had severe dry-rot and needed replaced, so we found a set of Firestone Firehawks. But we couldn't just place the new ones on the old rims. we took sandpaper and some rattle-can red and made a set of painted steelies. The hubcaps were a swap meet find.

Rebuilding the suspension was a necessity, but now we need to help this car get a "look." Right now it definitely looks too pedestrian. We first added the Go Wing we got from First place Auto Products. Since our Sport didn't come with a wing, we needed to make some modifications. The first thing was to get the die-formed templates from FPAP to help locate the area that needed to be cut.

After marking the opening, we removed the template and cut it out. We used a die-cutter and then test-fitted the bracket.

After we were sure about the bracket's mounting hole, it was time to drill the 51/416-inch holes for the pedestal studs to go through. FPAP gives a detailed measuring diagram for the holes.

Using the FPAP diagram, we mounted the pedestals to the wing.

We did ourselves a favor and increased the tension on the trunk springs to help support the added weight of the wing. We only had to move ours one hole on each side.

After the wing was placed on the trunk lid, we put the nuts and washers on the studs and snugged them down. This is not what supports the wing, so we don't stop there.

Next are the support bolts and the brackets. The brackets are attached to the trunk lid, and the support bolts are tightened against the bracket.

Sure, a '75 Dart Sport never came with a Go Wing, but that doesn't mean it doesn't help the look of the car.
