The new 2014 SRT Viper Time Attack is a special edition Viper that is being built to absolutely own every track it lays rubber on. Built as a street-legal performance vehicle and based on the SRT model, the TA is the lightest Viper in the lineup at 3,390 pounds. It builds upon the vehicle’s ultra-low center of gravity, 50/50 weight distribution and largest contact patch in the production car world.
The Viper TA is equipped with specially-developed chassis parts that were designed to attain the most out of the racecar-like chassis while inspiring confidence in whoever grips the wheel. The available Advanced Aerodynamics Package includes new spring rates, dampers, sway bars, and Brembo brake components in an effort to create a vehicle that ranks among the most capable track-ready production cars in the world. It also includes a carbon fiber front splitter and rear spoiler to provide up to a 700-percent increase of downforce at 150mph. These upgrades glue the SRT Viper TA to the track all while retaining improved balance and thermal saturation resistance.
“The new 2014 SRT Viper TA is engineered for the serious performance enthusiast who needs a car that can be driven daily yet has mind-boggling limits on a road course that would rival many track-only cars. As one of the best handling and fastest supercars available on the market today, the TA enables our customers to take their passion for high performance driving to the next level,” said Ralph Gilles, President and CEO, SRT Brand, Chrysler Group LLC. “The SRT engineering team set out to create a world-class supercar that has few competitors on the track or the road at any price.”
Race-tuned calibration for the two-mode Bilstein DampTronic suspension system is a unique element of the 2014 Viper TA, which also features a lighter underhood carbon fiber structural X-brace in place of the standard aluminum brace. This means a 50-percent increase in torsional rigidity and stiffness. The Brembo two-piece brakes are 32-millimeters wide and feature high thermal-capacity rotors and pads for extreme track usage. Combined with Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires, the Viper TA has no issues stopping on a dime.
A handcrafted all-aluminum 8.4L mid-front V-10 overhead-valve engine powers the 2014 Viper TA with the production of 640 horsepower and 600 lb-ft of torque. This fact alone is incredible in that the TA cranks out the most torque of any naturally aspirated sports-car engine in the world.
Now, onto what sets the TA apart visually. The 2014 SRT Viper TA will be offered in three exclusive limited-edition hues. TA Orange will coat 93 of the Vipers, 33 of them will be Venom Black, and another 33 will be offered in Bright White. Each will be fit with Sidewinder II wheels, which are super lightweight, and black anodized brake calipers with a TA Orange Viper logo. Rear width proportions are accentuated by a carbon fiber applique.
The cabin is all black with orange accent stitching on the Sabelt fabric racing seats, instrument panel, center stack, console, pull brake, shifter boot, shifter head, steering wheel, and upper doors. The aforementioned Sabelt seats are composed of lightweight fiberglass shells created by transfer molding technology, which enables mass reduction and long-term durability. Driver and passenger seats can accommodate 3- or 6-point harnesses.
Production of the 2014 SRT Viper TA has already begun at the Conner Avenue Assembly Plant in Detroit, Michigan and the cars are set to arrive at dealerships before the year is over.
