You don't need a magnet to spot an aluminum Slant Six; just try liftingit. At 64 pounds to the iron block's 130 pounds, you won't sprain yourback. The front of the blocks shows similar architecture, except for thetwo-piece main bearing caps used at all four positions on the aluminumblock. The aluminum block doesn't use cam bearings; the cam ridesdirectly on the parent aluminum via a generous supply of oil. No specialcamshaft is needed.
