2009 Dodge Challenger - A Challenging Project

look i love this car i found it on the interent when it got leaked out. Looks good but chrysler is doing the the same game here lets make it 470 hp i mean come ON! make it like 530hp for the SRT8 pick up the game and play it right. im tired of hereing chevy and ford that are ligther and faster than the Challenger!

Did I miss the long tube vs shorty headers? Were can I get a 2 point roll bar for my 2010 Challenger? How much HP did the Shaker hood add?

Don't do a motor swap, just totally build thatt 5.7L. And more of us have them.  Any ideas i can get that will work for my ram the better.

Check RPM for your roll bar, we'll be doing an installation in an upcoming article. Don't bother with a two point, not sure anyone makes one and two points won't do anything.

Good idea on the 5.7 we'll likely starting off building a 5.7 with forged internals, heads, and cam.

We didn't dyno the Shaker, because with the Procharger we couldn't duct it directly to the air inlet filter. In a normally aspirated car we'd expect a gain from the fresh air.

i like to see you reinforce the internals and crank the boost.  possibly a fuel system upgrade would be needed.

on the appearance side, i'd really like to see someone downplay the extreme body thickness.  remove the plastic panels around the bottom.  paint the front/rear valence panels flat black (under the "bumper").  continue the flat black beltline between the wheels, ie. which would include the doors.  this would help make the car look thin.  instead of a retro bumper kit, take the oem bumpers and wrap them in a mirror like graphic.  reflectech makes the perfect material for this, but a pro is required to wrap it around corners without wrinkles.  try to lower it a little more.

I think changing the 3.06 gear ratio to 3.73 along with a set of slicks would easily put this car in the 12 second range.

Stay with the 5.7, would like to see some handling test with mods. Needs wider wheels and tires. How about a 1/4 mile run on drag tires. I painted the lower black area on my 09 challenger looks like it should of from the factory, makes it look like it's on the ground. Can not put lower gears with stock 1st gear in trans. Just a note I have over 93,000 happy miles on my 09 challenger. With a few mods I ran 13.68. Yes I still own and drive my 1969 white Javelin.

Been following the articles on the late model challenger - Great job so far!  There is a lot of interest in dropping weight from the challenger to help its track times.  If you could do something about removing weight, without removing the creature comforts, would be welcome.  There must be some aftermarket support for these cars now.  I know the 6.1L SRT’s have the option of using an aluminum block that sheds considerable weight from the front ... perhaps there are other weight-loss options out there for your 5.7L build.
