It seems to happen with every feature--there's just not enough space for all the images, and if we're lucky, we might have video, and we all know how hard that is to show in print. It's not every day that we find a car that captures the spirit of what a classic Mopar musclecar should represent. Doug Sloan's '69 Plymouth Barracuda does this in a rather in-your-face fashion with its black tuxedo paint and drag radials. The car was purchased brand-new in early 1969 by his grandfather in Riverside, California. It started life as a Dark Forest Green 340 Formula S four-speed car with manual steering and brakes, as well as a black interior with bucket seats. The 'Cuda spent its entire life in Riverside as a daily driver for his grandfather, who was stationed at March Air Force Base.

As you've seen on these pages, Bill Goldberg has built a '65 Dodge Coronet two-door sedan with a Hemi engine. It's quite a nice car, but the finishing touches transformed it from a Hemi-powered Coronet sedan to the undeniable look of a '65 factory A-990 Super Stock. The inspiration for its transformation into a race car look-alike was a photo Goldberg found on eBay of an original A-990 sedan owned and raced in 1965 by Richard Schroder. This photo became the roadmap for the period look he wanted for his Dodge.

We've all heard the adage: there is no replacement for displacement. Why take 340 cubes when you can have 440? But, truth be told, for all-around viability on the street, sometimes bigger isn't always better.

The A-Body has to be the absolute best Mopar platform to build a drag car off of. They can be had on the cheap, and their small size and chassis give them serious potential in the 1320. Emilio Glano set out to build a serious race car that could win shows, and the final product was this '70 Duster. In June of 1989, Emilio purchased the A-Body for a cool 5-grand. It took a six-year project build in order to get the car running in 1995, and it was finally painted in 1997. "I liked the car and it was a four-speed so I was sold," he recalls. The plans called for a serious buildup that could reward Emilio with 9-second time slips and success on the show circuit.

It has often been said that good things come to those who wait. What other choice is there besides giving up?

You had to do some serious looking for high-performance factory-built Mopars after the early '70s.

In the March, May, September, and November issues, we showed you what all it took to build a clone of an A990 car. There were a lot of images taken during the build that we were unable to put in the magazines, or the entire issues would have been nothing but this one car, and you guys would have hunted us down for that. Anyway, take a look at these outtakes, you never know, one of them might be able to show you something you have been wondering about.

We see a lot of cars that-between their factory build and present day-have resided in more than one state. Many times, these are California or desert Southwest cars with minimal rust, hauled back East, then restored or built into pavement-wrinkling street machines.

Just how good is the new Dodge Challenger with the Drag Race Package?

Mention the name "Frankenstein" and most people either think of Mary Shelley's classic novel or the 1931 feature film version of it that made Boris Karloff a big star or Mel Brooks' 1975 parody, Young Frankenstein. But mention that name to Lutz, Florida's Paul Emiro, and he'll show you a Mopar that doesn't look freakish, doesn't sound (too) brutish, and is a very comfortable in-town and long-distance cruiser.

We all know about the Hemi Challenge program that Mopar runs for the infamous Hurst-built Hemi A-Bodies. However, a car that looked just like one of those brutal Barracudas dominated a division in drag racing in 2006...with a legal 572-inch Hemi engine! The "Hammerin' Hemi" now runs in A/FX trim in the Nostalgia Super Stock class. It's show-quality in and out, and owner, Vern Hill, and multi-time track champion Jay Adams managed to win big with it during its first full year of competition.

While the E-Body Hemi cars of 1970-1971 get a lot of attention in all sorts of automotive venues these days, when it comes to Mopar race iron, few packages can beat the '68 A-Body bombers built by Hurst. Strictly for the track (disclaimers to that effect came on each example), these Darts and Barracudas continue to be a highlight in NHRA's Sportsman classes, now running under the SS/AH banner that allows automatic and stick cars to compete heads-up. A few radical hardcore Mopar guys even put these monsters on the street. After seeing this car, we think Melvin Dunsworth of Kansas City, Missouri, should be named an honorary member of that group.

Mike Creglow of Welch, Minnesota, the owner of this super clean '65 Plymouth Satellite, had a revelation one day. He knew that he wanted to build his '65 into a show-quality race car and had been working toward that goal for seven years when he realized that, at the rate he was going, he was going to run out of time before he got it done.

Are Dodge's '61-'71 D-Series Mopars forgotten haulers--or haven't enough people discovered Dodge's big, boxy workhorse yet? It might be a numbers thing. Back then, Dodge was a distant third in the light-truck sales race, trailing behind Ford and Chevrolet, while staying close with GMC and ahead of International and Jeep.

Trucks have been popular in the world of custom autos since the first backyard mechanics began to tinker with their rides. Now, trucks have their own subculture with a passionate following. For MBRP Inc. Performance Exhaust's Jeff Carr, the perfect canvas for him to express himself was this '05 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab. He turned this run-of-the-mill pickup into a SEMA show-stopper.

Alligators swimming in sewers. Politicians telling us nothing but the truth. Hemi convertibles stored on blocks since Vietnam. Hey, we all know some urban legends, and we quickly figure out most of them are not true.

The early '60s were without a doubt the golden era of Super Stock drag racing, and Chrysler Corporation was the undisputed leader of the movement. Beginning with the Maximum Performance 413 Wedge engines in May 1962, Chrysler made it clear to all that they were playing to win. The evolution continued with the '63 and '64 426 so-called Max Wedge Orange Monsters, to the '64 and '65 426 Hemi packages considered by many to be the most complete and refined factory produced drag racing packages ever offered to the public.

Illinois' license plates wear the motto: Land of Lincoln. Judging by the many Mopars we've seen on the streets and roads of the Prairie State over the years--whether or not they were sold new by Mr. Norm's Grand Spaulding Dodge--the slogan Land of Mopars might be a better one.

In the world of automotive restoration, it's common to find cars that have been beaten on and then restored back to their original glory. Cars that were once weekend warriors with acid-dipped fenders and hacked suspensions retire from their racing days to return to the street. Street cars that have been through the excruciating torment of the daily commute and grocery store parking lots find refuge in a collector. These cars are usually rich with history and stories, as well as their fair share of blemishes.
