Growing up on the Jersey shore, Rob Fisher knew two things outside of school -- deep sea fishing and short track racing. Hanging out at legendary central NJ racetracks like Wall Stadium, East Windsor and Flemington Speedway, Rob gained a love of racing early thanks in large part to his father. A born and raised Jersey City boy, Charlie would attend the jalopy races at Roosevelt Stadium in Jersey City with his Grandmother every Saturday night. T hough never a competitive driver, the elder Fisher passed along his love of speed to his son, even the family vacations centered on racing. Every February the family would make the trek to Florida for Speedweeks. Days were spent at Daytona International Speedway, while the evenings the family was at either New Smyrna Speedway or Volusia Raceway Park.
Racing long before getting his driver's license, Rob had a success albeit local career before heading off to college where he earned a journalism degree. A move to Florida took him into the marketing department at Universal Studios Florida. Frequenting the local tracks on the weekend, Rob met James Finch, owner of Phoenix Racing through a mutual friend. What followed was a ten year stint working in the highest form of American motorsports, the NASCAR Cup Series, with not only Phoenix Racing, but Geoff Bodine Racing and Roush Racing as well. All the while he kept his finger on the pulse of short track racing writing both feature stories and columns for several different motorsports publications. T he internationally published writer has won numerous journalism awards.
Over a 20+ year career in the motorsports industry Rob has been behind the wheel of everything from a dirt mini stock to an IndyLights car to full bodied stock cars. He has experience building Super Late Models, Street Stocks, Dirt Late Models, and even a Camping World Truck. He has raced on a wide variety of tracks and still actively dons a helmet today. When not racing himself, the married father of two is actively supporting his son in the 15 year old's own racing endeavors. T he high school sophomore is a nationally ranked BMX racer, who has already indicated a move to four wheels may be in his future.
Away from the track, it's family first for the 44 year old, attending his daughter's dance recitals or just BBQing with the whole crew. Occasionally, Fisher, a former competitive angler, will still venture offshore in pursuit of sailfish, marlin and other big game...but that my friends is another story.
