04 This image shows the i-1 delivering a low ratio of supercharging. The electric motor compresses the lower drive sheave (pulley), which placed the hybrid belt at its outermost area. This, in turn, moves the belt to the innermost area of the impellor drive sheave. This is in the “low ratio” mode. Traditional belts would not work in this application, because of durability issues. Likewise, chain drives wouldn’t work because of their weight and fluid/lubrication requirement. The solution: a dry hybrid-belt system. The dry hybrid belt provides the best of both worlds, acting like a belt, but with the durability and strength of a chain. If you’re worried about the belt, don’t be. Procharger has subjected it to durability testing and since the kit comes with a three year warranty, they’re confident that you will not have any issues.
