Since the overrunning clutch is pressed into the back of the transmission case, the transmission needs to be completely disassembled. We recommend performing this upgrade during rebuild, like we did.

The factory clutch housing is pressed into the transmission case, and then held by a single set screw. Under load, the housing will try to rotate, damaging the case beyond repair.

After removing the set screw, the housing is driven out of the case with a hammer and punch. Alternate the punch between the governor support bolt holes to press the housing out evenly.
