Transmission Drivetrain Breakage

The TCI bolt-in sprag kit comes with everything necessary to completely rebuild and upgrade your overrunning clutch. This is one of the best upgrades we've found for the money.

Side-by-side, you can see the TCI unit is pre-drilled and tapped. Longer governor housing hardware is then used to sandwich the case between the sprag and the governor support.

Using tapered punches and the provided hardware, the clutch housing can be properly located before being installed.

Using the provided bolts and some washers, the clutch housing can be pulled into place by evenly adding tension to the bolts. Even though it will now be through-bolted, it's still a tight pressed fit, so gentle persuasion from the other side with a hammer will help.

The TCI kit comes with new rollers and springs, which can be installed after the housing is in place.

Once installed, the new clutch (sprag) housing is held in place by through bolts from the rear, sandwiching the transmission case between the governor housing and the sprag. Now, if we break an axle, we might have to replace some overrunning clutch springs, but we won't trash the case.
