With the bearing cap removed, you can see how the differential’s backlash (pinion to ring gear mesh) adjustment is done. There is a threaded adjuster on each side of the differential. The threaded adjuster is turned in or out depending on which direction the differential needs to go to achieve the proper backlash. View Related Article
