With the rear clear the entire... With the rear clear the entire exhaust system can be dropped out as a unit. With the rear axle and suspension... With the rear axle and suspension out, we bolted the fixed caster assembly to the leaf spring's front hanger mounts. The design of the caster allows the height of the car to be varied (within reason) by simply using a taller riser section. Set the wheels straight ahead, and lock-off the set screws. By loosening the set screws, the wheels can be turned and locked in any direction to crab the body into tight corners of the garage. Support the front of the car... Support the front of the car with jackstands under the longitudinals. Since they anchor to the body, the torsion bars have to come out first. Begin by winding out the torsion bar adjuster bolts to unload the T-bars. At the torsion bar rear anchors,... At the torsion bar rear anchors, this small clip comes out to allow the bars to slide back. Sliding the torsion bars back... Sliding the torsion bars back and out with the lower control arms left in place requires some brute force, since they are usually firmly stuck in their sockets. Chrysler had a special tool (# C-3728, which is also being reproduced), but we made our own years ago with a sectioned piece of 1-inch pipe, some plate, steel bar, and U-bolts. Ugly, but it gets the job done. With the tool clamped to the... With the tool clamped to the T-bar, just smack it back and out. If it's stuck solid, slack off the control arm pivot shaft nut at the K-member and try again; usually this will free things up enough for the bar to let go. Manual trans cars will need... Manual trans cars will need to have the shifter and linkage removed to clear the floor pan. Once the front drivetrain... Once the front drivetrain is removed, the front swivel casters can be bolted at the front bumper mounts. The socket at the caster (arrow) is lubed up with grease, and the bottom set screw is left loose to let it swivel. The clutch linkage anchors... The clutch linkage anchors to the body and will have to come off. Automatic cars will need to have the shift linkage disconnected, and column shifts will need the shift bellcrank removed. Up top, disconnect any wiring,... Up top, disconnect any wiring, cables, fuel line, or any other items that are still attached to the engine or trans. Unbolt the top shock mount... Unbolt the top shock mount and the upper A-arms from the body. A jack under the suspension takes the load off the control arm so it can be pried up and out. Disconnect the speedo cable,... Disconnect the speedo cable, support the trans with a floorjack, and unbolt the trans crossmember from the body.
