There have been several companies that have developed “kits” over the last several years, so you can install a modern five or six-speed Tremec transmission in your ride. It’s become common-place to see the conversion, and that’s a good thing. It adds drivability to the car, drivability makes the car more enjoyable, and since a more enjoyable car is enjoyed more often, that makes it a good thing.

But normally, the conversion requires some serious modifications to your car. For that reason, some people have shied away from the upgrade, just because the modification seemed to be too daunting a task. But, maybe those daunted days are over.

When installing a Tremec into any Mopar, an A-Body in particular, some serious cutting and welding had been required, and since the cutting needed was on a structurally significant portion of your car, we can see why the hesitation is warranted.

Hoping to help guys alleviate some of the fear of an install like this, the guys at ToddRon Restorations have come up with what they feel is a great alternative to much of the required fab-work that is needed. While their new crossmember/transmission mount does require cutting of the torsion bar crossmember, they tell us that they have integrated their unit to recapture the structural support that the original crossmember gave the car.

While we haven’t had a chance to actually put this new crossmember to the test, we wanted to let you guys know about it so you could give the guys at Todd Ron a call, and decide for yourselves.
