Spectre Performance

The least expensive kit we tested was manufactured by Spectre Performance, but as the numbers show, sometimes you get more than you pay for. Although the Spectre kit was the most difficult to install, and used inexpensive ducting, clamps, and components, it really performed on the dyno, making the highest peak torque number and coming within two horsepower of the highest power number. This kit also offered the most horsepower and torque for the money, so if you don’t mind spending a little more time on the installation, this kit is a great value.

Trick Flow

We’ve always had good results from Trick Flow and K&N products, but this kit was a little disappointing. Though constructed from high-quality components, the kit was somewhat complex to install. Power did improve by more than four horsepower, but torque was down slightly when compared to our baseline. We’re keeping this kit around, and plan another dyno session to verify our results.

Conclusion

All of the cold-air kits we tested made more power than our baseline, so there’s really no bad choice when it comes to this modification. Introducing cold intake air into the engine not only makes more power and torque, but allows the engine to run cooler and more efficiently. All of the kits we installed increased the “roar” of the intake when the throttle is opened, but we consider this extra noise a plus as well.
