We had a strong suspicion that more lift would equal more power. We pulled the valve covers to make way for some Crane 1.6:1 rockers. A set of PAW's ball/cup 440 hydraulic cam pushrods went in first.  Crane's 1.6:1 adjustable rockers...  Crane's 1.6:1 adjustable rockers were bolted in place and adjusted to a one-half turn past zero lash. The rockers really made the top end come alive, posting a peak of 387 hp, but it dramatically helped the engine hold on beyond peak power rpm.  A 1-inch, four-hole spacer...  A 1-inch, four-hole spacer was sandwiched between the intake and carb. We squeezed a few more ponies out of the combo, now churning out 391 rear-wheel horsepower. That's a fat number in anyone's book.
