The primary metering is a function of both the jet size and the metering rod. The rod has two steps at the end. Under higher-vacuum/light-load conditions, the thicker step restricts fuel flow, providing a leaner mixture. Under high-load/low-vacuum, the metering rod rises, and the narrow portion of the rod lines up with the jet's orifice, allowing more fuel to flow. View Related Article
