To beef up the bottom end, heavy-duty main studs (on left) will replace the factory bolts to hold the main caps in place. Studs have a larger diameter as their full length, as opposed to a factory bolt only having a shoulder near the hex. Therefore, the caps need to have their retaining holes enlarged to allow for a proper thrust clearance.

All machine work was accomplished in-house at Muscle Motors, and finish honing was performed with the use of torque plates.

Since this is a street engine, a hydraulic, flat-tappet camshaft was utilized. Degreeing of the cam was done for optimal performance. In a basic home rebuild, this step might be overlooked. This is not a basic home rebuild.

When the dyno session was complete, we had a very stout big-block. At nearly 600 hp and 660 lb-ft of torque, this engine has broad power curves and makes tons of torque even at low rpm.
