A 440 Hemi Really Does Exist

We weren't able to show you the machining processes done to the block, but here you can see the rotating assembly is finished. The cylinder bores are a finished 4.055 inches and the stroke is 4.250 inches.

On stock Third Gen Hemis, the damper and pulley setup are a tapered fit, and the crank bolt holds it all in place. If the crank bolt comes loose or breaks, it won't take long for your balancer/pulley to come off, and then the engine takes it tough. The Arrington 440 features a keyed crankshaft and pulley combination that alleviates that problem.

As with most engine builders, cam grinds are proprietary, and what you need to know about the ones in the 440 is that they work.

Cylinder heads are given the full porting treatment...

...and feature 2.07-inch intake and 1.57-inch exhaust valves.

The ports receive a full CNC treatment.

Quality gaskets are used throughout. Head gaskets are a Cometic MLS.

Like the heads, the intakes receive a full porting. The largest restriction in a factory Mopar 6.1 hemi intake is the injector mounting area. This area is cleaned up and smoothed to increase air flow.

We're getting close to finishing. The short-block is done, the heads are assembled and installed, and here you can see the timing chain is in place.

If you're going to increase the engine's air flow capabilities, you have to get the air in. AE has developed a 90mm throttle body that will do just that. If you already have an engine needing more air, you can buy the throttle body itself.
