Giving your modern Mopar more...
Giving your modern Mopar more power and features has never been easier. This month we'll install Diablosport's new Trinity tuner on staffer Scott Ross' '07 Charger for some impressive dyno results.
If you're reading this magazine, there's a good chance you're one of those people who just can't leave your car stock for very long. Even if you're not mechanically inclined, there's a good chance you've either installed aftermarket parts on your vehicle to enhance its performance, or you've paid someone else to do the work for you. And though installing performance parts on your car generally means popping the hood, breaking out the wrenches, and getting some dirt and grease on your hands, if you're lucky enough to own a contemporary Mopar, Diablosport offers a great way to make power without getting your hands dirty at all.
Since the 1980s, every vehicle manufacturer has used a computer to control engine functions such as ignition timing, and fuel injector pulse-width among other parameters. So it's no secret that changing the computer programming to give the engine a better fuel curve, and ignition timing, or "tuning" the vehicle, is an easy way to make more power. To show how easy it is to tune more power into a new Mopar, we decided to install a computer tuner on Associate Editor Scott Ross' '07 Dodge Charger police edition, and looked at the options. Our research led us to Diablosport's website. Liking the features and performance offered by the Trinity T-1000, we ordered one for the Charger.
Installing the Diablosport Trinity is an easy process, starting with plugging the unit into your computer and going to the Diablosport website to ensure you have the latest software and updates. After this quick procedure, we simply took the unit to the car, which we already had on the dyno, plugged it in to the OBD-2 diagnostic port under the driver's side dash, and followed the touch-screen prompts to install one of the pre-programmed performance tunes into the car's computer. Having filled the tank with premium, we installed the 93 octane program, netting some 15 additional peak horsepower and 15-20 additional lb/ft of torque across the board on the dyno. Additionally, the Trinity allows you to see and reset diagnostic fault codes, display engine parameter gauges on the screen, and even perform virtual drag tests and 0 to 60 and 0 to 100 time trials. Check out the dyno sheets below for the results, and be sure to look for drag strip testing in a future issue of Mopar Muscle magazine as well as videos of our dyno session on moparmusclemagazine.com.

It's no secret that electronic tuners can wake up a modern Mopar. We chose the Diablosport Trinity tuner for our '07 Dodge Charger not only for the additional power, but for the diagnostic and dragstrip features as well.

Diablosport updates their...

Diablosport updates their programs on a regular basis, so the first step is to plug the Trinity module into a computer, then go to diablosport.com to ensure your unit has the latest information. With this easy step complete, we took the unit to the car which we already had strapped to the dyno.

Following the touch-screen...

Following the touch-screen prompts, we used the Trinity to save the car's stock tuning, and install Diablosport's 93-octane program to see what kind of power we could gain electronically. The Trinity can also be used to create custom engine tunes, but we stuck with their pre-programmed settings.

Having already completed two...

Having already completed two baseline dyno pulls, we made two more pulls with the Diablosport tuning. Torque was up across the board, and peak power increased by 15 horsepower.

Peak power and torque were...

Peak power and torque were improved at high rpm, but the bigger improvements came down low where the Diablosport Trinity made impressive gains in torque. This is definitely an improvement that will be felt and seen at the dragstrip.

This dyno graph plots both...

This dyno graph plots both the before and after numbers, showing the big gains both down low and at peak rpm. After seeing the results firsthand, we're impressed with the power and features of the Diablosport Trinity tuning module. Look for future track and feature testing in an upcoming issue, and be sure to log onto moparmusclemagazine.com to see video of the dyno pulls.
