Roller camshafts are made from hardened cores, so the gear will eat up a factory oil pump driveshaft. We had a Milodon oil pump drive with a bronze gear on the shelf, so we used it in this engine. The bronze is a sacrificial metal and will slowly erode over time and need to be replaced, but it's easier and cheaper to replace the intermediate shaft than the cam. View Related Article
