Out of our eight competitors, only seven were able to make the call. We still had a heck of a time at the 2005 Nationals.
Congratulations to the 2005 Challenge winner, Lofgren Auto Specialties. Even though they had the smallest engine, the combination of parts and value gave them the edge.
Each engine was subjected to a parts-compliance teardown after the respective dyno pulls.

Windows Media QuicktimeOver the years, a common discussion between magazine staff and advertisers is how the magazine can help them market their products. We've come up with a simple and exciting way to accomplish this with the 2006 Mopar Muscle Engine Challenge. In our second year of the challenge, we will outline a build that is versatile and powerful, consisting of a 500-inch RB-based wedge engine.
For the last several years, Mopar Muscle magazine has been dedicated to providing good, real-world tech readers can apply to their own cars. We realize that every good idea is a collaboration of many, and in that context, we'll highlight the nation's top engine builders in a group dyno session.
Unlike other dyno challenges, the 2006 Mopar Muscle Engine Challenge will focus on street-oriented engine builds of a particular Mopar brand engine configuration. Sure, creating the most horsepower may sometimes be the goal, but this event will give each engine builder the chance to build an engine following a set of guidelines, then market and sold it as a packaged item. The purpose is not to build an engine that will only see dyno time, but one that anybody can purchase, either in part or whole, from the builder.
Due to our limited time and staff, we can only test a set number of engines. We are accepting applications until February 17, 2006, and we will choose the eight builders during the week of February 24.
After being notified, the builders will have until the Mopar Nationals in August to build an engine. The engine must be completed and at the designated display area at the Mopar Nationals by noon on August 11. While at the Nationals, the builders can display the engines and talk to the thousands of potential customers about their products and services. From there, the engine will go to Comp Cams in Memphis, Tennessee, for dyno testing.
