Mopar V8 Engine Wedge
A 500-inch aluminum-headed wedge looks impressive on the engine stand, but will it perform up to our expectations? Read on and decide for yourself if we chose the right parts to propel our Barracuda into the low 9s.

Mopar V8 Engine Clean
With the machine work finished and the parts on the shelf, it was time to go to work. We always give our parts a thorough soap-and-water washing when they return from the machine shop to ensure their cleanliness. You can never spend too much time cleaning parts before you final assemble an engine. The cleaner an engine is when it starts life the longer it will stay that way.

Mopar V8 Engine Cylinder Size
Before painting the engine we check that the machine shop properly sized our cylinders. We went through several local shops before finding one that could hold proper tolerances. We don't use the least expensive guy in town, but the one who does the work properly. We always check their work when we get our parts back, and Automotive Performance Engines of Auburndale, Florida, has never let us down.

Mopar V8 Engine Paint
After a thorough cleaning, the block is air dried and prepped for paint. We taped off all the gasket mating surfaces and used an old set of heads, old distributor, and timing cover to ensure the paint doesn't get where we don't want it. After painting, the block was again cleaned with soap and water before assembly.
