Don't Replace Your Mini-Starter, Repair It - Quick Tech

Here are the contacts we removed from our starter. The wear is clearly visible and was preventing a good connection between the battery cable and the starter. While your local parts store might not carry these, a shop specializing in electric motors should have them in stock. We got ours from John Vasquez Company in Dade City, Florida, for a couple of bucks.

With the new contacts in place, reassemble the starter relay in the reverse order it was disassembled.

The terminal posts are isolated from the starter housing by rubber grommets. Don't forget to install these unless you want to discharge the battery quickly and start a fire.

After reassembly, we used a jump box to test our starter on the bench. Ours worked perfectly and can now be reinstalled for many more years of service.
