Squish/Quench: An engine’s detonation tolerance is substantially enhanced with squish/quench. To be effective the piston must achieve a close proximity to the quench surface of the head, which improves mixture motion and combustion efficiency, while cooling the remaining end-gasses. A piston to head clearance of approximately 0.040-inch is an effective target. View Related Article
